What Is The Best Multivitamin To Support Your Health

by Sara Banta | Dec 23, 2020 | Articles, Supplements, Vitamins & MInerals

It is no surprise that with the lack of nutrients in our soils and our food supply, it is important to supplement with the basic minerals vitamins and electrolytes. Even more, when you are eating a low-carb diet, your kidneys let go of water retention and also let go of more electrolytes. This makes it even more imperative that you supplement.

I have searched high and low for the best multivitamin electrolyte drink and I have found it! Not only are these essential nutrients needed to feed every cell in your body, but they’re also needed for detoxing your body from things such as lead, mercury, cyanide, fluoride, formaldehyde, alcohol, xenobiotic chemicals, and so much more. Our systems are constantly trying to filter out the toxins in our environment, our diets, and the products we use that carry toxins as well.

What Is Methylation?

When finding a multivitamin, it is important to make sure that the body can actually absorb the vitamins and minerals in the formula.

One issue that most supplements don’t address is methylation. Methylation is the process of taking a single carbon and three hydrogens, known as a methyl group, and applying it to many critical functions in your body including thinking, repairing DNA, turning on and off genes, fighting infections, and getting rid of environmental toxins.

Such movement of carbon atoms goes on in every cell and tissue, as methylation is involved in hundreds of chemical reactions that regulate cell energy, healing, immunity, and genetic expression of DNA and RNA.

Why Is Methylation Necessary?

As a result of methylation, hundreds of molecular products change physically and functionally in the microscopic world of cellular biochemistry.

For instance, the amino acid, methionine, carries an available but inactive methyl group on its sulfur atom. However, within the confines of the cell, methionine encounters adenosine as ATP and magnesium which are energized by a transferring enzyme, thus forming adenosylmethionine, or SAM. This natural alchemy energizes the methionine as it releases its methyl group into the orbit of cellular enzymes, called methyl transferases.

There are about 400 non methyl transferase reactions that produce fundamental reactions that affect our health, quality of life and survival.

What Can Disrupt Methylation?

Some of us are born with genes that hinder our ability to methylate. In addition to that, one large issue we are facing is the prevalence of glyphosate, or Roundup, has been sprayed on much of our food sources.

Glyphosate disrupts the pancreatic enzymes that metabolize proteins. It mimics glycine, one of the most prevalent of the amino acids that form the basic building blocks of life and a key player in our methylation pathways.

Glycine is necessary for protein digestion. When the body is tricked by the glyphosate that it is already producing glycine, it stops producing the real glycine and impairs our ability to properly methylate and digest protein. Additionally, other methylation pathways that can be disrupted include hormone balance, fat metabolism, cholesterol metabolism, and the carrying of our neurotransmitters across our blood-brain barrier so we can use them for sleep and mood regulation.

Sulfur is necessary for mental health, endocrine health, collagen structure matrix, and detoxification.  Sulfur is imperative for digestive health. Suboptimal sulfur processing has been seen in those suffering from Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome and even celiac disease. It has also been linked to rheumatoid arthritis.

What Are the Top Methylation Products Within Our Bodies?

Creatine, Carnitine, Coenzyme Q, and Calmodulin are all methylation products that are needed to regulate energy in every cell of the body.

Furthermore, methylation converts the phospholipid, ethanolamine to Choline, which is essential for cell membrane structure and repair, including Myelin, which is the substance that insulates nerve fibers. Choline is also needed to make brain regulating neurotransmitters including Acetylcholine, Dopamine, Norepinephrine, and Epinephrine.

Melatonin, the neurotransmitter that induces sleep and regulates the circadian sleep cycle is also a product of methylation, specifically serotonin.

Sarcosine, formed by methylation of the amino acid glycine, has been used as treatment for schizophrenia.

Furthermore, for the transfer of a methyl group from folic acid to Cobalamin, or B12, methionine is required in order to regenerate active folate, which is further required for the methylation of the nucleic acid. As a result of that process, uridine then becomes Thymidine. Thymidine is needed for the production of lymphocytes which are active against viruses, cancer and microbes. Without it, methylation of DNA and RNA is compromised and deprived from these genetic materials against mutation. Methylation is also needed for the production of Polyamines, regulators of cell growth, mitosis, and healing.

Homocysteine is a potentially toxic byproduct in the methylation process. When SAM donates it’s methyl group, it becomes S-adenosyl-homocysteine (SAH), a free radical that is able to combine with other reactive molecules within the cell or in the bloodstream. Then, inside the cell, homocysteine is likely to react with copper because their attraction is strong enough to pull copper out of its binding sites in enzymes, including the cytochrome enzymes of the mitochondria. This interrupts electron flow and thereby lowers the cellular energy. This is why patients with chronic fatigue tend to have high homocysteine levels.

Methylation is required for immunity, fertility, and protection against birth defects, accelerated aging and susceptibility to cancer.

Ola Loa and Methylation

Ola Loa Energy is the most powerful energy drink available for the control of homocysteine and to support the process of methylation.
