Clue into Collagen

by Sara Banta | Nov 17, 2020 | Anti Aging, Articles, Skin Health, Supplements

Over the last five years, collagen has been getting a lot of press, whether it’s drinking bone broth every day or taking powdered collagen supplements, everyone is cluing in on the anti-aging properties of collagen.

The reality is our bodies stop producing collagen in our late twenties and as a result, our skin starts to sag, our joints start to hurt, our eyesight gets blurry, our bone density decreases, and we just start getting old!

I have been biohacking anti-aging from every angle whether it’s frequency base technologies or using MyVitalC which proves to reverse biological age, and boosts the immune system, inherently slowing down aging. Saying that, I have been using the same collagen supplement for the last 15 years and have not found another one that comes close to the quality and efficacy of it.

The most amazing results I saw were back in 2015 when I was in my car accident and utilized collagen both topically on my eye and internally, where I had four layers of stitches as a result of my head hitting a steering wheel when I was rear-ended at 50 miles an hour.

What Is Collagen?

Collagen is the most abundant type of protein found in the body. It makes up our connective tissue, provides structure for skin, tendons, joints, cartilage, organs, bones and other body parts.

There are 16 types of collagen in our body, but the majority of the collagen in our body is type I, II, III, or IV. Type I is a structural component of bones, skin, tendons, cartilage, teeth, and other connective tissue. Type II is a major component of joint cartilage. Your muscles, organs, and arteries rely on type III. Type IV can help with filtering and is more of a two-dimensional sheet that’s found in your skin.

Collagen supplements are usually type I and III, and usually come from cow and pig hides or from fish scales and skin. They’re a waste product and very abundant, so they’re usually quite cheap to make and are readily available.

Type II collagen can come from various sources as well—bovine, pig, etc. But the best source is from the chicken sternal cartilage because it doesn’t have a blood supply, so unlike cow or pig collagen, it doesn’t have contact with any blood borne disease or pathogens the animal may have had. It’s a much cleaner source of collagen. Plus, the chicken’s sternal cartilage is so close to human cartilage that the body recognizes it as similar to self and, therefore, it’s more absorbable.

Why Supplement With Collagen?

Once we hit our mid 20’s, our collagen levels begin to decline. That’s why age brings wrinkles, creases, sagging skin, dry brittle hair, weak fingernails, and stiff joints. Our bodies produce collagen in the underlying layer of the skin, the dermis. When collagen starts to break down, we end up with an old saggy mattress that wrinkles the sheets.

As we get older our cartilage also starts breaking down. Which means painful, stiff, creaky joints. No fun!

Collagen can also help with wound healing and reducing scars, plus getting rid of dry skin and rashes or inflammations and eruptions, and it helps to maintain healthy gums. It benefits nearly every tissue in the body!

You know how plump and juicy little babies are when they’re born? As we age, we basically go from plum to prune. We see the external signs of aging–loose and sagging skin—just imagine what is going on inside us!

What Type Of Collagen Should You Use?

Studies show that the type II collagen from the chicken sternum can increase all the major types of collagen (I, II, III, and IV) found in the joints, skin, hair, nails, gums and connective tissues, so it’s kind of the trifecta of collagen supplements, because it helps everything!

So if you want ALL the benefits of ALL the collagens, take the type II collagen from the chicken sternal cartilage.

But collagen doesn’t just act alone. In our bodies, collagen exists with Hyaluronic Acid and Chondroitin Sulfate. Another benefit of the chicken sternal cartilage is that it too contains this naturally occurring matrix of collagen, hyaluronic acid, and chondroitin sulfate.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is found anywhere moisture is in your body and acts as a sponge that holds the moisture in. We begin losing HA from the day we are born.

Hyaluronic Acid is what binds water to our tissues. It plumps everything up, keeping joints functioning properly and skin looking smooth. Hyaluronic acid is what plastic surgeons use with injectables such as Juvederm or Restylane. They inject the fluid beneath the skin to fill out sags and wrinkles, and once there, it attracts water to itself and makes everything look smoother. It’s also sometimes injected into painful joints for conditions such as osteoarthritis. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather replace my hyaluronic acid from the inside rather than having it injected with needles!

Hyaluronic acid is a major component in the synovial fluid – the cushioning liquid in our joints. HA rehydrates the cartilage and heals damaged cartilage, according to some orthopedic surgeons.

Chondroitin Sulfate acts like the shock absorber for the joints and provides elasticity.

It’s sometimes injected along with HA into knees and other joints to relieve osteoarthritis pain.

What is Hyaluronic Acid (HA)?

And why is it a key component of our highly bioavailable liquid collagen/HA matrix technology?

Hyaluronic Acid helps to hydrate joints, hair, skin, eyes, and bones and is known as nature’s moisturizer.

HA helps your body from within by hydrating skin, joints, hair, and eyes. It is found anywhere there is moisture in the body. It helps maintain mobility and younger, more supple looking skin. It even helps hydrate your throat and vocal chords. It nourishes the eyes, the vitreous humor of which is approximately 95% HA and collagen.

The skin is the largest organ in the body. It has been determined that up to 50% of the HA in our bodies is concentrated in the skin.

While serums and topicals will help you replenish & rejuvenate your skin, daily oral supplementation of our patented liquid form is the fastest clinically-validated way to replenish the HA that you lose with age.
Consumers and marketers are increasingly becoming aware of the proven benefits of HA. While some of these products may claim to compare, none come close to the bioavailability, exclusivity of source, multiple patents and the proven clinical research published in major medical journals that back our liquid collagen/HA matrix.
